Disappointing makeup products: The makeup that makes me go ‘meh’

Makeup flatlay with Laura's dissapointing products

When there are thousands of makeup products to choose from, it is easy to make a mistake. Let’s be honest, there it is thrilling to get a new lipstick or a new foundation. Unfortunately, not all makeup products are incredible – some are disappointing, and some are quite frankly a waste of your money.

Some makeup products are disappointing for some and not for others, this is an individual opinion. So take this post with a pinch of salt – what I mention here, may not apply to you. Plus, I would like to stress that I am not slating the makeup brands, it’s just for me personally these makeup products were kind of meh.

Maybelline Baby SkinPore Eraser (£7.99)

I have read and viewed videos of influencers raving about this product and I thought that this will be my go-to primer when I bought it. Surprise, it does not do anything!

I mean yes, it makes your skin smooth, but in terms of longevity and makeup staying on your face, this primer does not help. This is an issue because primers are supposed to make your foundation last. When I wear this primer, my foundation still melts away and it’s not a great look.

Collection Speedy Blush (£3.99)

When I am using a cream blush, I expect easy and effortless application. When it comes to this blush, it is a pain in the ass to blend out, it made me look like a clown – and not a beautiful clown. In my opinion, this blush is definitely not a ‘speedy’ product.

Sleek Makeup Matte Me Lip Cream (£4.99)

Lip cream? More like lip Sahara Desert. This is by far, the worst liquid lipstick I have ever tried. Nice colours, horrible feeling. It makes dries your lips…a lot. It does not matter if you slather your lips with lip balm, this makeup product is still disappointing.

Sleek has a lot of wonderful makeup products, this one, however, is one to avoid.

Collection Contour Kit (£4.19)

This contour kit is cheap for the money, but unfortunately, it does not really do much. The highlighter might as well not be in the kit, because it does not do anything. It takes a lot of applications until the highlighter is visible on the skin.

In terms of the contour, it is okay but there are far better contouring powders on the market.

Barry M Liquid Chrome Drops (£6.99)

The videos of this highlighter persuaded me to buy this product. That glow, the application…insane! This is like one of those expectation versus reality experiences.

I found that using this liquid highlighter was a challenge. From afar, this highlighter looks fine. When you come closer, patches of glitter can be seen. When I use a highlighter, the last thing on my mind is being covered in glitter.

I like sheen and natural glow. It’s also quite difficult to blend. The only purpose of this highlighter that I have maintained is mixing a few drops with my foundation. If you are not a fan of highlighters with visible glitter, stay away from this one.

Milk Makeup Lip Marker (Discontinued)

Oh boy, oh boy, this makeup product is a disaster. When I purchased this product, I thought to myself ‘oh how innovative, a marker but for your lips.’ When I first applied this lipstick, the disappointment was real. It feels horrible – putting this on feels like covering your lips with a dry felt tip marker. It is not smooth, it is not comfortable.

No wonder this makeup product was discontinued. Milk has released a lot of great products recently and I am sure that they are far better than this one.

Here you have it, these are some disappointing makeup products (in my opinion). They did not work for me but who knows, maybe they will work for you. Makeup is about trial and error.
What are your disappointing makeup products, what is a waste of money?

Thank you for reading! Stay tuned for part 2 – disappointing skincare products.

  1. I never saw that Milk lip marker before, but that's such an interesting and weird concept! I tried the Baby Skin primer years ago and it didn't do anything for me, either. I think it actually made me break out, though. Great post! :)

  3. I haven't tried these products, but I know many of my friends had similar issues with the Maybelline baby skin primer. They thought it'd be a dupe for pore professional, but they also had issues with it not being long-lasting. Happy they aren't the only ones who recognized a problem with the product and I'm happy that I haven't spent any money to try out any of these other products either. Great post!

    1. Hey thanks for reading the post! I know, the primer is always said to be a dupe for the benefit primer, that's exactly why I haven't tried the benefit primer haha

  6. OMG I remember when the Babyskin Pore Eraser came out and everyone was raving about it. I like the idea of this post. While I like to read about products that work, it is also helpful to read about things that didn't. But you're right, what works for one person may not work for another. It really is about trial and error. The Elf Primer really had my skin breaking out which was devastating because I was excited about it! Anyway, thanks for sharing doll!

    1. Yes! I was so sad it didn't work for me. I'm currently looking for an eye cream (trying to stay forever young, amirite? Lol), if you have any suggestions, I'd love to know! :D
